Which version is right for my Mac?

If your Mac has an M1, M2 or M3 chip (MacBook Air/Pro 2020+, iMac 2021+, Mac mini 2020+) download the Apple Silicon version — it runs natively and is faster. If you have an older Intel Mac, download the Intel version.

Not sure which chip you have? Click the Apple menu → About This Mac. If it says "Apple M1", "M2" or "M3", get Apple Silicon. Otherwise get Intel.

How to Install VLC on Mac

  1. Download the .dmg file for your Mac type
  2. Open the downloaded .dmg file
  3. Drag VLC to your Applications folder
  4. On first launch, right-click VLC and choose Open (required by Gatekeeper security)
  5. Click Open in the dialog — VLC is ready
